Well, I was so excited last night that I would once again have a Best Shot Monday to share with you all. Hoping to snap a few pictures of the boys off on their first day of school. But NO... It's just not possible. I can't do that when they cancel the first day of school!
I've never seen my children upset over school being cancelled in all my life. Then again, I've never known school to be cancelled on the first day either.
The area was hit by a tropical storm of sorts Saturday night/Sunday morning. It's caused torrential flooding. A creek that runs directly through our city is about to flood over. They fully expect it to crest about noon today. Apparently, when the creek floods over you can't travel from one side of the city to the other, leaving hundreds stranded. School buses could not deliver the children home.
So, I suppose I am thankful they've cancelled school. One more day with 3 rambunctious boys.
Ps. I had forgotten to update you on the potty progress. 'The Princess' was able to use the potty at the Redhawks game and again at Cold Stone Creamery afterwards. We're finally over that hump and she's been happily using public potties ever since. Once we get her night-time wetting under control, she'll be fully potty trained. YAY!!!

We're well on our way to being potty trained. 'The Princess' did okay the first 2 days. She would hold her pee and poop and didn't have any accidents, that it until she fell asleep and then it would all come out. Day 3 was the worst! She peed in her training panties every chance she got. I was ready to give up, but after reading and re-reading the book there was a paragraph that stuck out to me:
"If you are persistent in requiring a new behavior such as pottying and the child senses that you will not become discouraged and back off, he will comply with your wishes and continue in the new behavior. However, a hit and miss approach confuses the child and he will do whatever he pleases..."
SO, with the support of my hubby we decided to press on. We'd give it a full week before throwing in the towel. Turns out we made a wise decision because on day #4, she started using the potty. She's averaged just 1 accident a day. It's been wonderful!!!!!!!
I'm a bit worried about taking her out in public yet. She's being very particular about it all. She won't pee if you're standing in the bathroom with her. You have to walk out and pretend to be doing something else before she'll go. In a public restroom, you can't really do that. We're going to a Redhawks Baseball (Oklahoma Minor League) game on Saturday so I'm about to find out REAL quick. I'll let you know how it goes.
Well, we are currently on day three and no, we aren't Potty Trained yet. I will explain that while the book is called "Potty Train In Three Days" it does not mean it only takes 3 days. Some children take a bit longer and it usually happens from a few days to a few weeks. Can you sense my desperation for an excuse?
Seriously though, 'The Princess' is doing fairly well. She's now holding her pee and poop in... all the time. We've not really had any accidents, that is until she falls asleep. Then it all comes flowing out.... Yesterday she was up around 7am and sitting on the potty every hour. At 1pm she had still not peed in the potty or had an accident. She was holding it. At 2pm, she was still dry. We got in the car to run an errand and she... fell...asleep... instantly, she peed. Of course, she woke up and began to cry as she sat in her wet mess in the carseat.
So now, she needs to learn to RELEASE the potty at the appropriate times.
It's progress!
We'll see how the weekend goes.

Potty Train In Three Days
Hmmm. Sounds too good to be true? Usually, when it sounds too good to be true, it is! This book got great reviews though, so we shall see.
I received this book today from Paperback Swap and I've already read the entire thing. Front to back. Sure it's not a very large book, but it was good none the less. It made a lot of sense and I agreed with most everything it said. (Most, but not all) Regardless, we've decided to go for it full force. 'The Princess' is ready to potty train, she has every single sign of readiness listed in this book and others.
With the encouragement of the book, the two of us threw away her diapys this evening. (She calls them diapys) I got a large trash bag and she helped me throw them away. Technically, I'm really supposed to throw them away but I just can't bring myself to be so wasteful. I've recovered them from the Trash now that she's in bed and I will hold onto them for my little niece. (Or 'The Princess' should this plan fail miserably)
I've never in my life done such a thing before. I mean, we've gone cold turkey! What have I done?? By tomorrow afternoon when I am on my 2nd or 3rd load of laundry I'm really going to be questioning myself....
Oiy! Wish us luck in this potty training endeavor. We're going to need it for sure.

I'm not sure how I stumbled on Paperback Swap, but it was only about a week ago. I signed up and I am totally hooked now! It's so neat. Let me tell you how it works...
I listed some of our previously read books on the site (you have to list at least 9 books to get in the club) and I got 3 free book credits. So I could immediately order 3 books right away - They are mailed directly to me and you pay nothing! No strings attached. No gimmicks. No spam mail. Nothing!
When another member selects one of my books that I have listed, I mail it to them. Yes, I pay for the postage. But then I get a book credit and I can select another book that I want. So another Club Member returns the favor and mails me one of their books free of charge. For every book I mail out, I get another book in return - a true shared system!
Oh! And it's not just Paperback books, they allow hardcover and board books as well.
I've been eying some potty training books for 'The Princess' but I really didn't want to pay full price. Well, this was the perfect solution and I've got 2 already on the way! I've also swapped for some Sandra Boynton books,
.....they are her favorites and are very hard to find used!
Interested in joining? Trust me, there really are no strings attached. It's the next best thing to Freecycle. Check out PaperBackSwap.comto see for yourself:
The reviews are in…. Elmo’s Potty Time get’s an A-
After reading other reviews of the DVD I had mixed feelings. It seemed you either loved it or hated it, so I was a bit skeptical going in.
The movie arrived through the mail via Blockbuster. I wasn’t about to buy it before I previewed it after reading those reviews! I popped the DVD in and sat down on the couch with The Princess and her Cousin (also 2). The girls were very interested. Watching intently as
This show is absolutely filled with jokes and humor that goes right over the kid’s heads, but makes watching entertaining for parents. I had no problem sitting through the whole thing.
There are lots of songs throughout the show with the puppets singing and dancing. The song “Accidents Happen” was okay. “TP Factory Rap” was amusing, but my personal favorite was “The Dirty Diaper Blues”. Let’s see if I can remember the way the song goes….It’s all bad news…. If it all comes right out Halleluiah! ….No more dirty diaper blues… there were even skats using poopoo/peepee. During that song, my husband and I looked at each other raised our eyebrows and began laughing. Really, it’s a fun DVD!
Another plus of the show is the segment where they flash from toilet to toilet, the lid slams shut and it flushes loudly. For any of you that have ever potty trained a toddler, toilets can be a bit overwhelming. The loud noises sometimes scare the kid so much that they refuse to go. I believe this will definitely help desensitize kids watching from being so scared of those sounds.
Elmo’s Potty is a lot like
The reason I give Elmo’s Potty an A- instead of an A+ is because I did have a hard time keeping the girls interested towards the end of the show. They had lost interest and went off to play. I think that might have something to do with their age, being fairly new 2 year olds.
So there you have it, my Elmo’s Potty Review! Enjoy, even if your kid doesn’t like it, I think you will get a kick out of it. J

Do I dare even say this out loud? GASP....here goes. The Princess, stayed dry in her "Panties" all afternoon. Just for flips, I put them on her and drug the potty chair from the bathroom out into the middle of the living room. She sat on it many times throughout the afternoon, but never produced any matter. She didn't wet in them either though!! Could it be time to start potty training? I'm secretly jumping up and down for joy. Don't tell anyone. We'll jinx it for sure.
